Histamines cause the actual itch sensation, or you may just be acutely aware of the movement of all those tiny hairs that line the ear canal that amplify sound vibration. You are either having a reaction to something you have ingested in to your system or an external allergen is making contact with your inner ear or you have extremely sensitive ears.

My weak area of my eyes ears and troat would be my ears. When my allergies are active, I have tremendous problems with itching ears. When I take an antihistimine, it is eased. I not so much a medicine person so I also do things like, gargle with warm salt water with perioxide (do NOT swallow any), drink lots of hot green tea, suck sugarless peppermints. It also helps when I hold a very warm moist cloth over my ears for as long as I can stand it. Good luck.

If the ear canal isn't rinsed well and dried very well after showering/shampooing it can cause intense itching/scaling of the skin etc. It can be a dermatitis. See the doctor for some steroid drops.

Wax buildup at the bottom of the ear canal. No matter how clean you try to keep your ears you will have this buildup. Try using a qtip dipped in in 70% isopropyl Alcohol. Works for me. Be carefull' Don't go to deep. Kills germs at the bottom of the canal.
