well there are four quarters in each game and each quarter lasts for 15 minutes then the center hikes the ball 2 the quarter back who can hand it off 2 the half back (a half back is the same thing as a running back) or the full back or pass it 2 a tight end running back full back or tight end then they run for the endzone for a touch down. i forgot 2 mention there are 11 players on each side of the ball. a touchdown counts as six points. the offense can attempt a PAT (point after touchdown) for 1 point or they can attempt a 2 point conversion for 2 points. then there are many fouls that u can probbaly find at a local librarie or internet thats all i gotta say!!!!!!

It's kinda complicated to explain, but I'll try to give you some basics. Here's the different ways the for the Offense can score. Touch down worth 6 points, can be achieved by running with the football or catching the football in the endzone. After a touch down or a TD, the offense is given a choice of kickin an extra point that is worth 1 pt., or a 2pt. conversion. The 2 pt. conversion can be achieved the same ways as a TD. The offense is give 4 down or tries to go 10 yds or 30 feet. If the make it past 10 yards, then the get a fresh new set of 4 downs. If they can't score a TD and are close enough to the endzone (the area with the goal post) then they can kick a field goal, if the ball makes it through the uprights, then they get 3 pts. If they can't kick a field goal then on their 4th down they can punt the ball meaning kick it from their hand to get the ball further down the field. The defense's job is to stop the opposing offense and get the ball back to their own offense. They can score by a safety which is tackling the person on the the other team in their own endzone. The defense can intercept the ball, which is when the QB from the other team throws a pass and the defense catches it, if they run it to the other teams endzone then they get 6 pts. Then they are able to go for the extra pts, discused above. The can also recover a fumble, which is when the other offense drops the football and the defense gets it, if they run into the other team's endzone, then they get 6 pts. They are then able to try for a extra pts. After either team gets a TD or Field Goal then they have a kick off. Which is when one team kicks the football to the other team. There is 11 players allowed on the field from each team. Hope this helps you, maybe someone can explain all of the different positions.

The basics of football (I was a cheerleader too):
11 players on each team trying to get to the opposite end of the field.
The team with the ball is offense, other team is defense.
They determine who gets to be offense by flipping a coin and the team that guesses correctly gets the ball and kicks it toward their end of the field.
Other team catches it and then play starts from that line. There are 4 "downs" and the team with the ball has 4 tries to move the ball 10 yards. If they make it 10 yards, they get to start over with the first down and so on.
Touch-down is 6 points when the BALL (not the player) makes it across the goal line. Then they can kick the ball for 1 extra point (kick it through the Y-shaped thing in the end-zone) or a two-point conversion which looks like another attempt to get a touchdown. Field goal after touch down is worth 1 pt.
Field goal if team is close to end zone (area where it's no longer lined and numbered at the ends of the field) and on their 4th down but don't think they can get a touch down, they may kick a field goal which is worth 3 points.
There are 4 quarters that are 15 minutes each. There is a break at half-time.
Each team gets time-outs and if there is a call (judgment by referee) that seems ufair, the coach of the team that thinks it is unfair can ask that the play (what each time someone has the ball is called) be reviewed.
There is a ton more information -- but those are the basics.

Football is the best sport ever you can really get into it and not have to Know too much about it. First of all the game is divided into 4 quarters in the NFL (National Football League) these quarters are 15 min. long. there is a break in between the 2nd and 3rd quarters called halphtime. The field is 100 yards long. you make a touchdown by getting a player with the ball in your opponets endzone. the touchdown is worth 6 points. after the team scores a touchdown they can do one of two things one:kick an extra point which is worth one point or if they are loosing they can go for a 2 point conversion which is where they try to get the ball in the endzone again from 3 yards away. when the game starts one team kicks off to the other team. you dont have to Know all the position names and stuff. a team can only have 11 guys on the field at one time. the team with the ball is called the offence and the team trying to stop the offence is the defence. When the offence has the ball they have 4 plays to move the ball 10 yards once they move it 10 yards they get a new set of downs. If the defence stops them from getting a first down after the 3rd down then the offence can either kick it to the other team called punting or they can try to Kick a field goal worth 3 points if they are in range.when te offence has the ball the quraterback can either hand the ball to a runningback and let him try to get a first down or he can pass the ball to a wide reciever. well there you go a lesson in football from a football player

You have 22 players on the field at the same time. 11 players from one team 11 from the other. The team with the ball is on offense and the team without the ball is on defense. The offense tries to get past the defense and into the endzone with the football. The defense tries to stop the offense from getting into the endzone. The offense gets four downs to get the ball ten yards with out losing it and the defense tries to stop them. A touchdown is worth 6 points and once you score you try to kick a PAT or point after touchdown. If you kick the ball between the goalposts on a PAT you get 1 point. If you run or throw the ball into the endzone you get two points. The team with the most points wins.

The best thing to do is to watch a football game with someone who knows what's going on, and ask them questions.

Basically, a bunch of big brawny guys run back and forth knowcking eachother down. They try to make "touchdowns" by havingthe quarterback, the guy in the back, throw the ball to the reciever, the guy running his *** off. If the reciever catches the ball, he runs and tries to cross the endzone, making a touchdown, which gives their team 6 points

try football for Dummies (book)...also, sit and watch football as much as you can, would help if you can get someone who knows a little about it to explain it ot you as you watch it, if not, just watch and try to learn the rules...I didn't know much about it until college, and now I am a fan for life, I prefer college football over NFL though, but that's just me
