just go ahead and ask them straight out...my boyfriend says if I can put up with him for 5 years we will definitely get married. My ex-husband asked me after 6 months of dating...it didnt work out well......

That depends on too many things. But I'd say beyond two or three years somebody has an issue. We see a crazy number of questions here where people have waited 6, 8 or 10 years and are wondering why they haven't been asked. The worst thing to do is pressure someone or try to talk someone in to marrying you.

it depends on how old you are really. if you are under 25, up to four years of dating is reasonable. after 25, people are ready to date with more serious intentions, so i think 2 years is long enough to know whether or not someone has spouse potential. dont let some guy with a commitment phobia keep you hangin on while he makes sure he's getting the best deal ;)

A normal amount of time is a couple of years. If they haven't asked you by then, there's a good chance they're not going to, especially if they're truly in love. This sounds a little one-sided to me......one is in love, the other is just along for the "ride".

There are a lot of factors to consider, like is he still in school, or if the feelings are mutual. other wise a year of dating would be the maximum to wait then a year long engagement. If you are still together after that it will last.

three years, if you want to get married and feel like you are both ready then talk to your mate and find out where he stands, he may be thinking about marriage too, or he may not know that you want to get married and is in no rush, talk to him and let him know how you feel
