I've earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Management w/ a minor in Advertising. I am also a passionate artist with limited to no professional experience, only freelance projects: Makeup, Set Design, Wardrobe Styling, Interior Design, Fashion Design. I am eager to start a new career now but it seems that I am caught between "no extensive professional experience" & "no specialized formal education" & it has become difficult to find real work. I need guidance as to how I can begin a creative career without returning to school or doing an internship. I feel like I am stuck in the "credit" fog: you can't get credit without credit.

The first thing I thought of when I read your question was Event Planning. Believe it or not, it encompasses a lot of the creative outlets that you had listed. I worked for a time for a company that produced large entertainment events (concerts, etc). We had to use both our business experience and our creative edge to design sets, costumes, etc. In addition, it allowed me to meet many people that I otherwise would never have come into contact with such as agents for performers.

Since you have business and also advertising maybe start with graphic design or layouts for a magazine something of that sort and later on switch to fashion/makeup

You know you just answered your own question, don't you?

You are where many people wish they were: You have the education and a great minor....start your own business........how about an Advertising Business....

Advertising is creative............

Meanwhile, take a second shift job to earn some money. Use your daytime hours to start your business.

Career planning is a continuous development process through which we attempt to understand our personal, family, school, work and community experiences and the significance they are likely to have in building career and choice of lifestyle. We need to identify opportunities and to identify options. We need to examine our personal interests and skills as they relate to a variety of career opportunities to help us make appropriate and realistic decisions. Keep in mind that the goal of exploring career is not just employment but a purposeful of integrating our personal interests and values with the kinds of work that are most satisfying for us.
