It's white and cloudy looking, and it seems to be under the varnish.

However, I wasn't able to find the particular post.

I've used "Old Craftsman Brand Lemon Oil with Bees Wax" available from Fox Run Craftsmen, Ivyland PA 18974. It retails for about $3 at Cracker Barrel. It's great for removing light scratches from wood also.

Some folks advocate using mayonnaise or WD40, which sounds a little strange.

The one solution I've seen but haven't tried is using a warm iron.
Here's what one person said:
I found this tip on an American website, and although it sounds mad..it really worked for me. Place a cotton tea towel over the area, and rub a warm iron over it in a circular motion. The idea is that the heat takes the moisture out of the stain. It made a really big difference to an awful water stain on my oak table. My husband was very skeptical at the notion of it,but was really impressed with the results I achieved!

Here's a copy & paste of this previously asked question.

Try either Fornbeys or Howard's Restore A Finish both are available at the Home Depot or Lowes. They won't hurt the finish and will conceal the water stains. Howards you can use in a one step process and it comes clear or you can match the stain of the wood. Fornbeys comes in a kit and is a three step process. It really depends on how deep the water soaked into the wood veneer that will determine which will work better, so read the instructions before purchasing either.
