I agree. People ask me if I am a satanist or I worship demons/devils. No, I don't, I like wearing black. Nothing wrong with it my eyes. I don't like most pastel colors, or mostly bright clothes. It is a choice of taste. It is a misguided stereotypical societal misfortune that many people think this. Some also call me goth, no I'm not. I don't cut myself, I'm not depressed (i'm actually extremely happy), people consider me nice (too nice in fact), I don't dream of killing people.

Because, generally, people - especially happy people - prefer to wear colours.
Black sucks up the life around it, as it were. So people looking at a young woman all done up in black, all the time, naturally think that you are depressed or morbid or, perhaps, in mourning.
There are many interesting works about the effect colours have upon us, what our choice of colours might mean, and how colour is used in various endeavours - to calm you down, get you worked up, make you feel good. Colour psychologists are hired to pick appropriate colours for shopping malls, prisons, hospitals etc.
And why do you suppose there might be such correlations?
Colour is a component of light which is a wave/particle that has various wavelengths, denoted by Angstroms. Each hue has its own range.
So, you see it is possible that colour can have quite an impact upon a person, because the colour is perceived by the cones in your retina. In other words, the cones are set vibrating by the wave of the colour. For all we know, the various wavelengths have emotional or intellectual correspondences in the brain.

gee i never wear black and nobody thinks i'm denying
the fact of death. the truth of the matter is i do not
look good in it. if other peoples' opinion matter to you
try relieving it with a little color. like a pretty scarf or
belt. just avoid wearing scarlet with it. for some reason
that combination is depressing to some people.

Black is a generally worn, generally accepted colour which is smart and slimming. Ppl just happen to wear it at funerals too. Ive never had any such issues and I wear it quite often.

because goths wear black, and gothic music is usually associated with death. i had an english teacher who wore a lot of black, and it turned out that she did listen to gothic music. but she didn't talk about death at all, and she was really nice.

People don't always think that. Maybe you are being a bit paranoid. Black is a good color wear, just dress it up a bit with a red turtleneck or belt - throw in a splash of color.
