Neither, menstrual cups without a doubt.
I used to use tampons and pads, but I always had to change every few hours because I was so heavy and I got constant infections from using tampons, I switched to a Mooncup three years ago and never had an infection and they have made my life so much easier.
With menstrual cups they are totally safe so don't cause infections or have any other nasty health risks like tampons, you can leave them in for up to 12 hours without leaking as well as leaving them in for bed or putting them in before you have your period so they are far more convenient, they are far better for the environment, they are far cheaper than tampons or pads and they are way more body-positive.
I wouldn't use tampons if you paid me and pads are just no good for someone as heavy as I am.

When i use a tampon i wear a thin pad or a panty liner b/c u might leak and well as to which one 2 use it just depends like if ur going 2 swim or b in water then tampon but if u r really light a pad will do and um just so u know tampons dont usually hurt it might feel a little uncomfy putting it in or once it is in if its not stuck in the right way and it dows feel odd when u pull it out and it is still dry

My mom says tampons cause you almost get no leaks, and once you master them they will be very easy and it will get natural. But since im only 12 I havn't mastered tampons yet so I'm wearing pads but they are disgusting, you sit in your own blood and they smell. If your wearing pads i suggust not a deoderant one. The risks for TSS is very LOW so don't worry about it, jsut wear whatever yuo feel is right and most comforable. Sometimes the tampon will hurt if you don't get it in all the way, just take it out and do it again.

It depends on what your basic daily activities are, and if you wear tight, short clothes, or skirts. I like pads better cuz I don't like anything foreign going into my body if I can help it. Maybe in the future I'll try tampons if I really need to swim or something. I have a lot of discharge any day anyway, so pads feel more natural for me.

Pads are 100% safe. All you have to do is wear them, and once they get soiled to just replace it with a new one. Pads are usually more "feminine" than tampons as well.
With Tampons, you have to be extra careful with them or you could get genital cancer. If you don't clean them out often, and if you don't change them more than once daily, you have big risks of other infectious things. Besides, tampons rip your hymen, which allows other bacterial diseases to get into the vagina in a smoother course.
I would stick to the pads, and stay 100% safe.

WOW the answers you got really open many new questions
I'm 66m I introduced tampons to wife. because I hated to see that pad wrapped up in toilet paper in the waste basket. stinky sometimes.
You know, why hasn't any one researched Tampax, Kotex, (?)
I don't understand the virgin thing or hurt stuff.
The menses does not osmose through hymen It is open to flow.
The mention of pain I hear, is another problem.
First thought .they are trying to insert the gauze tampon in after removing it from the insertion tube. Second: they never read the instructions. a dab of lubricant
I gota post this question from the stupid side

Tampons are cleaner and more comfortable then pads. There isn't really a high percentage for toxic shock syndrome.
