I'm not trying to be rude or mean or anything and I know that African Americans were treated terribly...but does people not realize how bad the Native Americans were treated? And they are still treated that way, living on these sh1ty reservations....it just isn't right.

Of course they were treated badly, everyone knows that. However, although Americans have come to accept how badly African Americas were treated, they refuse to do it again. People are in denial. They don't want to believe that through all of their 'sacrifices' that people still suffer. It's ridiculous, but it's true. Native Americans are, to me, some of the most incredible people on the planet. They kept their strength and will to survive even when people surrounding them threatened to vanquish them.

Being American Indian, (My kids are also biracial... Black, American Indian, and White.) I've actually had this discussion with a couple of Black people. One guy raised the argument that Black people should also receive some of the "benefits" American Indians receive.
I think the real reason that our culture and background is ignored is because it happened so long ago that people are very detached from it. I honestly believe it's one of our historical tragedies that most everyone would rather not be reminded of.

EDIT:
Actually an American Citizen is someone who is born on American soil.
A Native American is someone who is indigenous to the land. Hence the term NATIVE. And the term used in the question was "American Indian"
Hopefully people remember their history better than that knowing that Europeans LITERALLY took the land from the Indians believing that THEY were barbaric and amoral. They enslaved and raped Indians much like they did the latter day slaves. AND for the record, Indians WERE forced to live on reservations that were and are run down in the hope that we would keep to ourselves and allow the Europeans to occupy "Indian territory".

I agree. I feel awful for the way this nation has treated the Native Americans. But, what can you do now. They do get free education, some tribes get annuities, and others operate casinos. I know this doesn't make up for the horrid past, but it's more than other nations have done to their indigenous peoples.
And by the way, people at the bottom of the totem pole are actually the most important.

The problem is anybody who is not white is treated badly. It's sad but true.. If you are not white and you are treated good it's because you look white or you have alot of money. For some reason money does not have no color...

I heard a white lady say this on television once, she said if your not white your not right.. What kind of bullshit is that? I love being who I am, no one could tell what my age is. How ever, most white people look 50 years old at the age of 25yrs .old..

There are some good white people and I am not referring too you however, to all you racists peace of **** out there F**k YOU, and goto hell....

Your right people should do more then just talking when it comes to what has happened to the Native Americans and what is still going on. This is why its important to vote and the public should challenge these politicians on these issues.

Indians were given land, and have many benefits today that blacks never got. Also, you run into a lot more black haters than you do indian haters. Example: If you had been collecting arrowheads all your life, did you know that if any indian wanted to, they could walk right in and take all of them, by law.

1) What is a Native American? Someone who was born in the U.S.?
2) This is a free country. People are free to move away from reservations any time they choose. They aren't hostages, you know.

because our education figures... thanksgiving and the trail of tears (if you go to a good school) is enough for native american history. the same for african americans the cusp of their history is also minute. only one history "matters"

I don't think deaths.. acts of torture and slavery can be put side by side and judged on which was worse. when lives are at stake everything that hinders their prosperity and tranquility is worse.

I know! The Native Americans had North America before it was even called "North America". What the hell!

I don't think a lot of Indians talk about what they go/went through like black people, we are always speaking out about things, but you never see Indians talk about the racism that they face and I know that it's out there.
