Is there a worse trade in baseball history than the one between the Giants and Twins, which sent Joe Nathan, Francisco Liriano, and Boof Bosner to Minnesota in exchange for A.J. Pierzynski?

Try this one: in 1963, the Chicago Cubs traded Lou Brock to the St. Louis Cardinals for Ernie Broglio. Brock of course went on to become a Hall of Fame player. Broglio, who had won 20 games in 1962, didn't even total 20 wins through the rest of his career. This trade is generally acknowledged to be the worst in major league history.

That's a pretty bad one but the 1965 Frank Robinson from the Reds to the Orioles for Milt Pappas, Jack Baldschun, and Dick Simpson has to be the worst. The O's won the World Series in '66 with F. Robby winning the Triple Crown as well as leading the league in slugging and OBP and runs. Obviously he was MVP.

His time in Bal'mer from '66 to '71 he was the offensive cog in some terrific O's teams that went to 4 World Series.

Weird thing is Pappas ended up being dealt later for, among others, Clay Carroll who ended up a key guy in the Big Red Machine's pen.

Brock for Broglio would certainly be up there as would the RedSox selling Babe Ruth to the Yankees for $125,000 plus, I believe, a loan of $350,000. Even though a loaf of bread cost a nickel back then it still seems like a steal.
How about the Reds trading Frank Robinson to the Orioles for Milt Pappas. Robinson won the triple crown, was MVP and led the Birds to the World Championship the next year.

I think the Orioles-Astros 1991 deal was worse. The Astros dealt Glenn Davis in exchange for Curt Schilling, Steve Finley, and Pete Harnisch. Davis hit 24 homers over 3 years for the O's, and was then out of the game. Harnisch had a decent career, and Schilling and Finley are of course both still around.

I'd alson nominate a 1910 trade in which Cleveland got Joe Jackson from the A's for Bris Lord.

I'm not sure what year it was but the worst trade I ever remember was when the Cardinals traded pitcher Ernie Broglio to the Cubs for eventual Hall of Fame outfielder Lou Brock. Another bad one was when Milt Pappas of the Orioles was traded to the Reds for eventual Hall of Famer Frank Robinson.

Uhh Walter E. that is nowhere near as bad a trade as the Pierzynski trade. Also McGowan isn't the GM. Brian Sabean is. And I think Jeremy Accardo for Shea Hillenbrand and Vinny Chulk is actually a good trade for the Giants. I don't think Accardo is gonna be that great.

Among many in my memory, Brett Butler and Brook Jacoby to the Indians for Len Barker.

Jacoby started at third for a couple of years. He could have been the replacement for Bob Horner. Butler went on to a great career, and Barker went 1-13 for the Braves.

In the Red Sox department, there is Freddie Sanchez (now leading the NL in batting) for Jeff Suppan, who played for the Red Sox for two months before becoming a free agent. The Red Sox have had others, they traded Jeff Bagwell to the Astros for Larry Andersen, who pitched 22 innings for the Red Sox. And of course, they let Roger Clemens go in the belief that his career was over 10 years ago. (He won number 346 today.)

Yanks traded Jay Buhner to Seattle for Ken Phelps

Funny episode of "Seinfeld" has George's father berating Steinbrenner for that trade.
