they get sucked inside the washing machine, into a magical world where they worship the socks, but not pairs of socks, as these can become to powerful and can take control of the planet.

I standardised my socks buy only buying large thick hiking socks. approx 50% of these have gone missing. some of which have been replaced by small womens socks(black).
Others have been replaced with large red 'santa' socks of which i now have about 6 pairs.
If any of these are yours please get in touch.
The same has happened with my T shirts to a lesser extent.
Obviously washing machines act as portholes to an antimatter universe, e.g where the left blue sock is switched 4 a red right sock, or another garment u mistakenly believe is yours, i.e a white T shirt.
NASA tried this with monkeys, but the 'Hawthorne effect' or 'observer effect' skewed the result and produced only Wayne Roonies.

Sock manufacturers decided that they were not getting enough sales so they came up with a cunning plan with the makers of washing machines,The washing machines would swallow one sock from each pair, this in turn would block the machine and they would get money for coming out to unblock it. Then you would need to go out and buy another pair of socks and the sock makers would get more money too!!!!!!!!!

There's this teleporter function in the back of the washing machine, like a stargate. It opens randomly and socks are abducted to the Sock Planet, whence they originally came. The other sock's a clone, that's why it's left behind.

your washing machine lives on socks the electric is only a booster. if it did not eat socks it would die. but washing machines are not bad and that is why they only eat one of each pair.

if you put your socks into an old pillow case before you put them into the wash then you will usually get as many out as you put in.
you can buy netting bags just to put socks in to avoid losing them

The washing machine eats them, or simply the kids hide them.
