No they are not uncomfortable if you get the correct size and use them properly. They are alot cleaner than pads and it does not feel like you are wearing a diaper. Pads are just discusting. Tampons are alot more hygenic aswell.

They are not necessary at all, there are a lot of different menstrual options and in fact commercial tampons are the most harmful out of them all. Personally I would say that tampons are uncomfortable – absorbent wads of material being put into a moist delicate area to soak up menstrual flow and discharge leading to vaginal splitting, infections and not to mention the string cutting through you like cheese wire.
Menstrual options (including tampons);
Commercial tampons
Organic tampons
Soft tampons
Sponge tampons
Homemade tampons
Commercial pads
Organic pads
Cloth pads
Homemade pads
Padded panties
Padettes
Rubber bell-shaped menstrual cups
Silicone bell-shaped menstrual cups
Diaphragms as menstrual cups
Homemade menstrual cups
Softcups
Period blanket
Free-flow
Free-flow layering
Free-flow instinctive
Extraction
Other…such as just using toilet paper.

Yes, they are. Anything else can be messy and stinky and uncomfortable. Picture yourself walking around with a bloody wet pad between your legs for 5 to 7 days out of every month from the time you are 12 or 13 until your mid 50s and ruining your underwear because the pad flooded. Nasty.

No, they aren't necessary, and no, they aren't uncomfortable if used correctly. Tampons are actually a recent invention. For the rest of history, women have used cloths, and more recently, sanitary pads. It is really a personal preference. Tampons allow you to swim, which is a definite advantage.

No they're not necessary but they are much cleaner than pads and they're not uncomfortable if inserted properly. I think pads are more uncomfortable than tampons. It's all about personal preferences.

If put in correctly, they should not be felt.
Either tampons or pads are necessary, otherwise women would bleed all over themselves during their periods.

Tampons are not uncomfortable unless you wear them a long period of time. I would not wear them because scientifically they are harmful to the vagina and it was discovered that it may be linked or can cause cancer. You can discuss this situation futher with your Doctor because he would know of all the updates.
