A good attitude, pens, papers, books, maybe a calculator and some highlighters if you do that knid of thing and your cell phone turned on vibrate. My first day of classes is usually short considering most professor just give your the syllabus go over it and then you can go. But there is always one that is ready to work so better to be prepared. There is nothing wrong with carrying a backpack or a messanger bag everyone that needs one carries them. Also you may want to map out your classes ahead of time so you won't get lost and be late to class. I think you will find the people in your classes to be helpful and nice, much different than highschool.

Don't be nervous! The first day of classes is usually pretty easy. I always just took a backpack with a single notebook and a pen, to jot down any information that's given on the first day. Some professors jump right in and start lecturing on the first day, but most just go over the syllabus (which you might be able to print off beforehand if it's posted on Blackboard). Be sure to print your course schedule, and be sure to look at a campus map the night before classes start to make sure that you know all the buildings that you have to go to. Good luck!

Money. Notebook. Ballpoint pen. Shirt pocket to put extra ballpoint pen and calculator. Daypack size backpack to carry books in. More money. Earplugs (some idiot in the dorm is always playing loud music). A religious vow to avoid parties and social entanglements that distract from doing your homework. The monkeys who play will fade away when their grades get too low to stay.
Resolve to be friends with the smartest kids in class and join their study group, or suggest that one be formed, to do collective collaborative work on those hard homework problems that the teacher thinks you're doing by yourself.
Study groups meet regularly on weekends at night at a 24-hour restaurant near the campus. They also meet before a big test to study up for it.
Get to know the waitresses and tip her to make her happy, and be sure that everyone in the group orders a meal to keep the management happy. And drink lots of coffee to stay awake. Some nights the session will begin at 9 pm and end at 1 am. Other nights, it'll begin at sunset and end about sunrise.
A good study group is actually better than a drunken party for having fun with, and you get to learn at the same time as you tear through those homework problems one by one. If there's any one thing that will keep your grades high, it's being in a good study group where the brightest students help the others "catch on" to what the deal is with the math or physics.
If you're a good student and gain a reputation as being an especially responsible person, your department head might approve you for having a key to the class building so that you can get into the laboratory or study room at night. Then you can have study group sessions in the class building itself, which is convenient because there are blackboards & chalk & computers and stuff in there. And coffee too: there's usually a coffee maker around somewhere.

Dear Freshmen,
On your first day of college I suggest having sex it help to relieve tension and make you feel at ease. As for going to class might I suggest a backpack with which you can carry all study materials(i.e. notebook, pen, calculator, books, syllabus ect.)and keep them organized.Plus you can also carry something to eat and drink - sometimes it could be a while before you can get back to the dorm. Best of Luck in school - enjoy they will be the best years of your life.

Awww, I remember those days. Just carry your writing materials and paper. There's nothing wrong with carrying your backpack to keep everything organized. Good luck in school, you will be fine.
