i thought it was compulsory to start with a ring but the piercer convinced me otherwise. i've since read that a bar increases the risk of infection and groing out. what can i do to make sure this doesn't happen

the ring infact moves to much and puts more pressure on the piercing than a bar does, your piercer made a good choice in jewelry (my shop refused to use a ring actually) be sure to keep it clean and do SEA SALT (not table or epsom salt-to many chemicals=way to harsh) soaks 2x a day for 10min 1/4tsp salt to 8oz warm water. wash your hands before touching the piercing for any reason

if you fear the bar growing place a band aid over before bed or when sitting round the house, just for the first few weeks until the skin fully heels. the band aid is there to hold it in place. as for the risk of infection us some antiseptic cream twice a day

Use Dr. Bronner's soap (I usually find it at "natural" stores, like Whole Foods, or my local Co-Op). Don't use Q-Tips to clean around it. Don't use antibacterial ointment. Just keep it clean and don't play with it.

take a shot glass, fill with water and epsom salt. hold it to your brow for a few minutes. do this 3 times a day.

All I can say is take good care of it. Look up the aftercare and don't forget to do what it says.
