I have trained several hamsters who were mean for other people. It takes about a week and you must be very persistant.
1. Figure out what its favorite food is and remove all of it from the cage. Usually it is sunflower seeds or peanuts.
2. Get a pair of work gloves, leather is best.
3. Pick up your hamster with the glove on three or four times every day. DO NOT react if it tries to bite you. Give it one sunflower seed or half a peanut every time.
4. By the end of a week, the hamster will come to your hand to be picked up, it wants a treat. Continue to only provide the sunflower seed or peanut if the hamster is in your hand.
Hamsters only need a couple of high fat seeds like peanut or sunflower every day anyway so you are not depriving it of something it needs.

The best way to stop a hamster biting is to stop being nervous with him. If you cannot do this, a few days handling with someone confident with hamsters should help. Hamsters are very sensitive to smells, and they get upset by the smell we produce when frightened. Start by putting your hand in the cage and let him get used to it. Allow him to climb on your hand and try not to flinch. In time, build up to picking him up. Make sure you do not try to handle him when you have been eating, traces of food on your hands can be very tempting! I find with my hamsters that it is best to handle them when they have been awake for a couple of hours - my hamster Jared is very nervous when he just wakes up, and prefers to be left alone to come round.

I had a rat that would bite occasionally. After I threw him across the room, he stopped doing it. Guess he got the idea that I didn't like it.

Make sure you wash your hands before you pick him up. If you smell like food, he will want to taste you. And be gentle. Once you have picked him up, just let him walk around on you, don't squeeze him. Take him out every day to let him get used to you so he isn't scared.
