Any company that makes YOU pay to publish a book is either a scam or a vanity publisher, i.e. they'll just make copies so that you feel like you did a good job and nobody will actually read it. A real publisher pays you in a contract with royalties, but to get most publishers to even talk to you you need an agent. To get an agent you have to have something published or (here's the easier route) to have won some writing contests. A good list can be found at www.pw.org

Have you tried having it published the old fashioned way first? Working through an agent. A lot of those companies that you pay them to publish your book aren't going to do you much good, and when you look to publish later, many publishing houses don't take self-publishing seriously.

About 600 bucks which includes an ISBN code and a copy in Library of Congress. I think the publishing company is something called First Publishing Co.

$30,000 if you want to do it right. But this just means local advertising, a local book printer, a business license with your company's name, and a good website.

These days, you don't have to spend a whole lot publishing your own book, but the above figure is a comfortable estimate.

Check out a local privately owned book store, sometimes they will publish your first book free...and hold a signing for you too.

some if you go through a publisher, less if you use a desktop publisher and got to kinkos for the actual book. I produced poetry chapbooks for @ 3.75 each for an undergrad course.

If you take it to a vanity press you do. If you shop it around you may get lucky. LONG shot. Depending on how many copies and advertising you want to do is how much you'll need. $10,000
