Alright

AB is 70 miles. C is between A+B. AC is one third as long as BC.

AC=BC/3
AC+BC=70

(BC/3)+BC=70
4BC/3=70
BC=(3*70)/4
BC=52.5 miles

AC+52.5=70
AC=70-52.5
AC=17.5 miles

:-)

AC = 17.5 miles
CB = 52.5 miles

Since C lines in a line between and and B and the distance from A to C is 1/3 the distance from C to B then lets call the AC distance X and the ditance CB 3X, making AB = 4X.
We already know that AB = 70 miles, so that means that X = 17.5 miles and thus 3X = 52.5 miles.

AC is one third of BC which means the whole line is divided into four portions, AC has one and BC has the remaining three. So simply: 70 / 4 = 17.5 thus AC is 17.5 miles and BC is 17.5 * 3 = 52.5 miles....

the total sum would be 70 miles given the way you asked the question.
ac=1/3 of bc
bc=52.63
ac=17.37
given 1/3=.33
but hey this is just a guess ?

if A, B, and C lie along the same line then:
AC + BC = 70
AC = (1/3)BC so

(1/3)BC + BC = 70
BC = 52.5 miles
AC = 17.5 miles
