It's grade point average and, well you know average don't you.

GPA is Grade Point Average. Generally you get points per unit: 4 for an A, 3 for a B, 2 for a C, 1 for a D and none for an F. So if you get an A in a three unit class you get 12 points.

Then all points you have earned are added together and divided by the number of units you've earned and this is your Grade Point Average. So if you earned an A in one three unit class and a B in another three unit class, then your GPA is 3.5 which is 21/6 (12 points for the A plus 9 points for the B divided by 6).

Some schools make it even more complicated by changing the amount of points awarded for + and - grades. For example, the University that I attend gives 3.7 points for an A-.

GPA is an average of your grades on a point scale, from 0-4 4 being a A+. you should look in your school guide to see your exact requirments because everyone does it differently.

G.P.A. stands for Grade Point Average. All of your accumulated grades from high school level are converted to points ranging from 0 to 4.0 the average is acquired by adding the points together and dividing them by the number of individual points presented.
