Just to give you an idea of my tastes....

1) I despise any and all reality tv shows.

2) I like anything educational but with a plot behind it. (CSI, Law and Order, etc) Documentaries aren't my thing.

3) I enjoy comedies. I prefer subtle and clever humor over anything that's done just for cheap laughs.

4) Anything original, clever, witty. (Try shows like Monk, Psych, House).

5) I still enjoy reruns of great shows (Friends, Everybody Loves Raymond, Seinfeld, etc).

I hope there are still some good shows out there because I'm having trouble finding new things to watch. Any suggestions?

Yes. And I say yes because you've compiled a list that basically reflects exactly MY tastes.

I cannot stand reality TV. That is not reality, people. Do not tell yourself it's reality. Do not market it as reality. Do not try to convince me it's anything other than STUPID PEOPLE BEING SET UP TO DO STUPID STUFF.

I loooooooove CSI and Law & Order. I haven't seem Miami or NY, I'm afraid I'll be dissapointed. I HAVE seen the three main L&O shows: TO, SVU and CI. I used to be a little critical of CI because it's not so much with the lawyering as it is with the spastic detective and his level headed partner, but it grows on ya.

I enjoy the same kind of humor. I also enjoy bizarre, completely abstract humor (think Monty Python).

House! I love House way more than I should. I actually didn't WANT to watch the show before I'd seen any of it because I knew people were absolutely raving bonkers about it and I didn't want to become one of them... but then, alas, I watched and I was hooked.

My husband and I watch Psych every week. We think it's decent... it makes me chuckle more than actually laugh, but it's a fun comedy.

Ever seen Eureka? It's on Sci-Fi. It's ok. My husband likes it more than I do and I think it's going to be canceled before the end of this first season, but... it's ok.

Try Stargate SG-1. Ok... I know what you're thinking (well, I don't, but I'm pretty sure my guess is accurate)... more crappy sci-fi. Well, I thought so too... at first. I really did. I would watch reruns late at night when I had nothing better to do and think to myself "Jesus, who LIKES this garbage?"

Some of the effects ARE kind of... iffy... but if you look past that and pay attention to the humor, the banter, the inside jokes, the glances, the character interaction and evolution... it's awesome. It's one of the funniest shows I know of (and you wouldn't think so, huh?).

So anyway..... sorry that was so long. I get all worked up about TV sometimes.

There's nothing much but reruns right now. But most of the new shows will be starting soon. Two that you might enjoy are Vanished and Til Death (with Brad Garrett from Raymond). One I'm looking forward to and hope is good is Jericho.

You should try "Criminal Minds". It is a team of FBI profilers tracking different cases wherever needed. It is very well written and has an occasional, unique sense of humor throughout the script. Ever seen "The Closer"? Kyra Sedgwick is a LAPD deputy chief "Closer" of homicides. The balance of seriousness & humor is well done.
As far as a great comedy, try "The Office". Steve Carrell is the boss and has a hilarious group of employees.

Well you should most definatly check out Curb Your Enthusiasm. Its stars Larry David the creator of Seinfield and it is outright genius.

I also am very picky when it comes to television...the only shows I consistantly watch are

Curb Your Enthusiasm
The Ali G Show
South Park
King of Queens----also pretty funny sort of like Everybody Loves Raymond

The less picky you are, the less disappointed you're going to be. There is likely more reality television than all other programming combined. (It's not going away anytime soon; deal with it.) And the dumber something is, the more attention it tends to get.

Cooking shows can be considered some form of reality television. Ever try that?

I am a Grey's Anatomy fanatic! The patient disorders and injuries are based on actual cases and I think the cast is beautiful. It's funny, heart-warming and saddening at times. The past 2 seasons have evoked every emotion. I love it!! So maybe try it. This fall, it will be on ABC on Thursday nights at 10 PM eastern, I think.

HOUSE. I know you listed it, but I love House, and I definitely think it's a show that even picky people will really like. It's got lots of drama AND lots of humour, a great combination. Quite possibly one of the best shows ever.

Also Medium, I really enjoy Medium. I don't know if you would like it or not but again, it's got a good blend of drama and comedy.

Great show, Prison Break returns for a second season on Monday! Great show. A new fox show starting called Vanished looks good in previews! I love Rockstar:Supernova, but I guess its reality, LOL, so you won't. Nothing else on during summer!

Rescue Me, I love that, it is very dark at times but funny as well. Crossing Jordan is like CSI, Black Adder on BBC America is hysterical and My Family, Waterloo road, Hex and Sea Of Souls on BBC America are also pretty good. Forensic Files on Court TV is good as well as American Justice and Cold Case Files on A&E.
