This question hits close to home because i have had an abortion. I don't think it should be punishable because in some cases it's a very acceptable choice. My case was a product of rape, hate to make it sound like that but that's what happened. I didn't feel like i could raise a baby at the time and i didn't want a baby that would remind me of the horrible way he/she was brought into the world. Another instance is my little cousin was abused and ended up pregnant when she was 14, her mom let her have the abortion also. But for people who just lay down and have unprotected sex and end up pregnant it shouldn't be so easy. Granted some people just can't support a child but they should look into other options like adoption. But if there is a really good reason behind having an abortion i don't think it should be punishable.

Do I think abortion should be punishable? Yes, but it will never work, because if you punish one group of people for having an abortion, then you would rightfully have to punish every woman who goes and has an abortion. However, I do believe that when the immature, irresponsible teenage girl gets pregnant, the parents should be required to sign a consent to treat form. The teenager isn't fully mature enough in certain instances to understand the medical risks involved with having a surgical or medical abortion, and the parents have the responsibility of making that decision for their child. In cases where the parents are super strict and extremely religious and it would be a threat to the girl's well being for her to tell them, she should be allowed to have the abortion under the consent of another family member or friend over the age of 18 who can explain the procedure to her. However, people (especially religious extremists and anti abortion people) will disagree with this one, because the girl knew what her parents are like and she chose to do the deed to begin with. I understand this to an extent, and in these situations, the girl should be offered confidential family planning services to avoid the situation from happening in the first place. In cases of rape, the woman should be allowed to make the decision without being pressured into keeping the baby because we all know that there are people out there who will try. The last instance I will mention is the couple who can't have children due to a serious medical risk to the mother, such as extreme sickness or death. If their method of birth control fails, then she shouldn't be punished for having an abortion because death and extreme sickness are the extreme punishment.

Nope! No woman on her right mind would do such a thing just for the sake of it. Probably she would have strong and convincing reasons for doing it. Sometimes women are victims of rape, sometimes they are too young to have children, sometimes they are sick... I know that those reasons might not sound too convincing for people who are anti-abortion, but who are we to meddle into someones life and to say do this and do that. We cannot even guess through what hell some women are going through and through even bigger hell they might go if they keep the child. We are not there to help, so we shouldn't be there to judge as well. Abortion should not be punishable!

People make bad choices and misstakes and you legally can do what you want to your body. Some people are punished- aka side effects of the abortion. As far as legally- no people shouldnt be punished for making a choice!

I think it is wrong but should not be punishable because sometimes the woman has no choice (as in the case of pregnancy caused by rape).
