Definetly hit Greenwich Village, especially around St. Marks. Chinatown has some great inexpensive restaurants if you like chinese food.
Besides the usual attractions, go to other boroughs. Go see a game at Yankee or Shea Stadium. Go see the Poe cottage. If you wanna see the Statue, but don't wanna pay, take the Staten Island ferry. Same view and totally free. Do some more research. Its a great city!

- Excellent Dumpling House in Chinatown - 111 LaFayette St - yummy, fast, inexpensive
- Al's International Soup Kitchen (aka Soup Nazi) - 259-A W. 55th St. - very good soup - just don't call him soup nazi or refer to Seinfeld
- Carnegie Deli is fun - but if you don't want to wait, or pay that much, there are tons of good delis all over the city
- Central Park
- Subway - learn it - makes getting around much easier, cheaper and faster than taxis all the time. It's not that hard to learn, and not as scary as pepole seem to think it once was
