Does any one have a chinchila.

I used to have one....what do you need to know??
I really loved mine, he died (very old age). It always reminded me of a cross between a squirrel and a mouse :) They are a member of the rodent family. Mine was kept in the house in a pen, he was able to roam around the house every other day, very well mannered.
They do need to take dust baths, cause they will stink if they don't get their required baths. Their coats are super soft, and actually valuable.I think that it is possible to train them to use a litter box in the house.

We have one that lives at the vet clinic during the summer. It is a classroom pet. They have to have dust baths at least twice weekly or they get sick. They need fresh fruit and vegetables and must have timothy hay daily along with a good chinchilla food. They have such soft coats and the tail feels like a bottle brush. The tail will break off if you grab it. Good luck.

My son's teacher keeps two chinchillas in their classroom! The kids love having a joint pet and they are let out on special occasions, such as during golden time for the children to fuss and play with. Other classes have hamsters, fish and birds!

No way! I hate all pets! Especially dogs and pigs! Yeah dogs.
