I'm not sure why it's good to say good luck to someone. PLEASE HELP!

In addition to what everyone else has said, when said with an ironic or sarcastic tone of voice it means that you have no chance at whatever you're about to do.

Saying good luck to someone means that you wish them luck. Also meaning you hope they suceed in what they are doing. Though in some cultures it is bad luck to tell some "good luck" so they say break a leg. Or if you are acting they say Toi Toi Toi!

You are orally wishing them good fortune in their endevors. Its a polite thing to say and is a cordial departing phrase.

The opposite of badluck, pretty much saying I hope something unfortunate does not happen.

They are wishing goodness or wellness upon you. They are wanting you to be successful in whatever you are in need of.
