Just about any combo drive you will find out there will do what you want - if you have a Future Shop near you go there and ask them about it.

what you need is a drive that says DVDR -R +R if it birns dvd's it will burn cd's. If you want more than that look for a DVDRW -R +R -RW +RW. This version will write to dvd's and can also write to rewritable dvd's. which are dvd's that can be erased and burned again. RW dvd's are more expensive though. other types of dvd burners out there are dual layer burners. These are dvd's with two layers stacked which can hold twice the information on them. And still another version is the lightscribe dvd burner. Lightscribe tech is a way to burn labels and pictures onto the top of dvd's. It's really just a bling type of thing, it's not needed and doesn't really add functionality. It's all in a grey tone though. the -R and +R and -RW and +RW are formats of dvd discs. R mean recordable, RW mean re-writable, and the + and - are formats. Dvd discs come in one of the two formats. There is some debate as to which format is better, if you burn a disc and it doesn't work in a device, like a dvd player, try burning it on another disc in the other format. I've never had any issue with using the - format however and have backed up dvd's and cd's, as well as some older games.
I hope this didn't just confuse you. But to make it all more simple look for a dvd drive that says it is -R +R -RW and +RW compatable. This should cover everything you need.
