No dis-respect to Johnny Depp as he is an awesome actor, but i have to go with the original as Gene Wilder is a legend!..

OMG! there has been so much controversy over this. I remember when the remake was coming out, there was actually a website trying to ban it LOL
A lot of people that were big fans of the Tim Burton version, liked it because they said Depp's character was more true to the book. I did read that Roald Dahl, who wrote the story wasn't very happy with the original film and dedicated the story to his son that passed away.
I read the book when I was younger, but still enjoyed the original film so much better. If you grew up watching the Gene Wilder version, than you're going to lean towards that one. All the songs were catchy, the oompa loompas were great and I thought Wilder played a mad-genius that never grew up perfectly. Plus, Peter Ostrum the little boy that played Charlie was really adorable. I didn't really care for the kids in the remake at all and the magic just didn't seem to be there. honestly, it doesn't really matter what version you like, as long as the fans continue to keep this classic alive.

I think the new one, because they've thought alot more about hte character of wonka, his mannerisms, his appearance, his reactions. The original wonka seemed like a wonka that was used to people and the spotlight. Well, he's been locked away form all humans in his chocolate factory so of course his language is going to be fairly old, like 60s, his skin is going to be very pale, he is going to be socially mal adjusted etc. They've put more thought into why each child is such a brat, like Violet being pushed by her mother. In the original the whys werent even thought about. So on the deeper level i like the remake more. But as far as enjoyment, plot etc goes i prefer the original; i didnt care for wonkas underlying issue with his parents, nor the alternate ending. Even though it further shows the thought that has gone into the character, it needed to be more subtley played out if at all.

Willy Wonka with Gene Wilder, Jack Albertson is the best. It is the same as remaking a classic. You can try, but you cannot beat it. The Omen is the sdame kind of deal. The original is a classic, and the copy will be on dvd after its short 30 day run at the theaters. You cannot improve on perfection.

definately the original. I think Johnny Depp's great but he made Willy Wonka frightening.
The Oompa-loompas were ridiculous. Bring back the little men with green hair and orange faces.
I hated that they changed the characters too.
NO NO NO. Original is best

The new one would have won hands down if not for those stupid songs by the umpa lumpas, the older film was better in that respect, but Johnny Depp is Willy Wonka, so I guess the new one wins, but only by a small margin.
