i'm 7weeks pregnant. i had a fake pregnancy a couple years ago and although everyone is assuring me that this one is real, (this one is COMPLETELY different) i would still like to see it on an ultrasound or hear the heartbeat. i was wondering when they usually take one and if they will take mine earlier than usual. my husband is in the military so if there are any military people out there, do the clinics on base do something different? thanks for your insight!

I had a sonogram done at 8 weeks, showing twins.
Don't count on knowing what the babies sex is by the sonogram though! I had 4 and everyone of them showed that I was having 2 girls. I had a boy and a girl.
Congrats and good luck!

i am going to an army hosptial @ fort carson and they will take the baby's heartbeat on your first prenatal vist. (Of course they make you wait to go in until your going to be about 6-8 weeks along) If they have trouble finding the heartbeat with the doppler (with my daughter she was moving around too much and they couldn't find it) they will give you an ultrasound right than and there. If they do find a heartbeat with no problems they will make you wait for an unltrasound until you are 20 weeks or over. The radiology department is super busy it took me a month to get an appointment so I didn't get her regular ultrasound until I was 25 weeks. Army hospitals are a little bit more busy than normal ones and they of course have strict guidelines on when you can do everything.. You'll be okay for the most part the prenatal care is good..

they usually do the sonogram around the 5th or 6th week depending on your dr and they usually only give you two if everything is going well if you want more and the insurance will pay for it ask for them.if not then you will have to pay out of pocket and they are very expensive.you should hear the heart beat around the end of your third month and what a great thing to hear and everytime you hear it its the most wonderful sound ever like music to your ears so be patient and enjoy your pregnancy its the best time in your life at least it was in mine

My husband is in the Air Force and the base near us doesn't do OB/GYN so we are always referred to an outside doctor. This time is was a civilian doctor. Typically, they will do the first ultrasound around 10 weeks to confirm your due date. You probably won't be able to hear the heartbeat until 12+ weeks which is normal.

Best of luck!

usually all OB/GYN's do about the same things no matter if they are on base or not...have you see a doc yet? Most dont like to see you untill about 8- 9 weeks gestation...and around that time you can hear the heartbeat with the uses of the doctors doppler...a ultrasound is usually done around week 20...but the doctor might or might not do one earlier

I would think that they would do a sonogram soon. I had a sonogram at 4 weeks and then at 6 weeks to see the heartbeat. if they don't do one at 8 weeks, I would ask why.

I do not know about the military. But... heart beats about 12 wks. I think. & for ultrasouds it depends on your dr. and family history. you could always ask & maybe you will get a yes.
