the people who pick up the recycle actually recycle it or do they just trash it like all the other garbage

They recycle it, at the recycle centers in your state. Recycle business would get fined for just throwing our recyles away. There are big centers where the recycles go and the recycle business brings the stuff there.

check with the city, and they'll tell you where the re-cycle plant is.you may even be given a tour of the facility so you'll know how the re-cycled materials are sent to various plants to make paper, asphalt, metal products, etc.

At our school they just throw it out b/c they're too lazy to sort out the paper, plastic, etc.
