What state?
Most stated don't require certification unless you are doing commercial (Big Rig) brakes.
If you have the knowledge to do the work, and want something that tells others that you are at least reasonably knowledgeable and competent, register and take the test for ASE certification. Recognized by most employers and some states (in some classifications) as pretty good pre-employment screening.

Different certifications are available. There's an ASE certification for brakes and undercar if you pass the test.
