hernia occurs when an organ or tissue squeezes through a hole or a weak spot in a surrounding muscle or connective tissue called fascia. The most common types are inguinal, incisional, femoral, umbilical and hiatal
In an inguinal hernia, the intestine or the bladder protrudes through the abdominal wall or into the inguinal canal in the groin. About 80 percent of all hernias are inguinal, and most occur in men because of a natural weakness in this area.
In an incisional hernia, the intestine pushes through the abdominal wall at the site of previous abdominal surgery. This type is most common in elderly or overweight people who are inactive after abdominal surgery.
A femoral hernia occurs when the intestine enters the canal carrying the femoral artery into the upper thigh. Femoral hernias are most common in women, especially those who are pregnant or obese.
In an umbilical hernia, part of the small intestine passes through the abdominal wall near the navel. Common in newborns, it also commonly afflicts obese women or those who have had many children.
A hiatal hernia happens when the stomach squeezes through the hiatus, an opening in the diaphragm through which the esophagus and two large blood vessels pass.

I've had one and I'm only 13! I think I was 9 when it happened.
A hernia is a genetic disease when the intestine pushes through the stomach wall. What you see on the external skin, is a small lump which will kind of hurt when you cough or sneeze. I had to lift my leg up whenever I coughed or sneezed because of the awkward feeling. Hernias can be near the groin, near the belly button; usually anywhere between your genital and your ribs! If you have one, go see a doctor.
Hernias must be treated with surgery. Years later, if you lift a heavy object, the hernia may pop out again which will you will need surgery again to treat it.
Usually, hernias are genetic, but lifting heavy objects can cause one.

I hernia is a weakening of the abdominal cavity where the intestines can begin to protrude. It can be detected by bulging in the area but can remain undetected for years. Most of the time the bulge can be reduced by "pushing the intestines back in". Pain can accompany a hernia but not always. Major problems can occur when the intestine can no longer be pushed back in. This can result in a condition called strangulation in which the blood supply is cut off to that part of the intestine and the tissue dies. Treatment usually is surgery to repair the tear in the muscle wall and to reinforce the area with a polyproylene mesh.

When an organ or part of an organ goes through an opening into an abnormal position eg your stomach can sometimes herniate through a hole in the diaphragm into the the same cavity as the lungs (a hiatus hernia).
Often no treatment is required as the organ slips back into its normal position. Other times you may need to operate - the procedure depending on the hernia eg sometimes you can simply push the organ back and close the opening so that it can't slip through again.
The symptoms depend on the hernia (eg the 'hiatus hernia' mentioned above causes heartburn)

A hernia is an beginning or weak spot interior the muscular shape of the wall of the tummy. This illness motives a bulging of the belly wall. This bulging is in many situations greater great while the belly muscular tissues are tightened, thereby increasing the tension interior the tummy. Examples of activities which could worsen a hernia are lifting, coughing, or perhaps straining to have a bowel circulate. think of a barrel with a hollow in its area and a balloon it relatively is blown up interior the barrel. area of the inflated balloon could bulge out interior the path of the hollow. The balloon going interior the path of the hollow is fairly like the tissues of the tummy bulging by way of a hernia.

A tear in the muscle wall of the abdomen, that allows a bit of intestine to bulge out. There is surgury to place a patch inside the tear to hold everything in.
