depends on the type of load, the lighter material is simply carried in suspension whereas the denser material may be dragged along the stream bottom bouncing along the stream bed or simply being pushed along by the flow. Once it reaches the end of the stream you would want to consider the change in density of the water as it enters salt water and the effects of tide and currents.
