It means that one person is like the other. If a son beats his wife and his father used to or does beat his mother then they would say of the son "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree"...like the apple is close to the tree so the son is close to the father in a certain way!

That saying means that a person probably acts or has acted like a relative of theirs, usually the mother and/or the father. The parents are the "tree" and the "apple" is the child. When the "apple" does not fall far from their "tree", they are acting in the same mannerisms that their parent(s) has acted in before.
That is what that means. Whether it is in academics, sports, their looks, manners, whatever, that is what that means.

My Mom always says that to me when I mention something weird about her. LOL, it means that the tree's personality and behaviors is something like the apples. And the apple and the tree are somewhat related, and the apple is the tiny one, and the tree the big one. Representing father and daughter, mother, and son.

It's an expression that basically means you are always connected to where you come from in some way or another. Weather it be your ancestors or your country or thinking habits or whatever context it may have been said in. It's just a funny metaphoric expression. It can be used in ways other than just about your parents! All the other answers I've seen here do not fully explain it's variety of uses.

It means that your parents (the tree) pass off certain traits which you (the apple) portray. Basically, it means your just like, or at least similar) to your parents.
