What do you think about YOUR college costs going up $1300 over 3 years to fund diversity?

It's happened in the State of Wisconsin. The University of Wisconsin at La Crosse is raising the tuition for eveyone so that they can expand scholarships for minority students and hire more minorities on their staff?
Whatever happend to
1. Getting a loan to pay for school - the way I did
2. Having to have a certain grade point average to get in a school - the way my kids did
Should soceity have to pay even more - - (we pay taxes)?

I beleive in opportunities to all those that show the desire and ability to succeed. While sometimes some people just need an extra opportunity to realize their capabilities I believe college is a little too late. By this time people have formed a good deal of the behavior attributes and most likely if you were failing in high school and free ride into college is going to improve your grade average. I have four kids and I am working on my Bachelors degree hopefully to graduate in the spring. I have loans out the you know what. But this was something that I wanted to do to better myself and I have put forth alot of effort. Everytime I even think about quitting I consider all that would be lost ie better jobs, wages, living but most of all all the money I would be wasting and not complete my degree. I don't see the same effort from alot of kids who their parents are completley paying for everyhting. alot (not all) could careless whether they een go to class. I have a feeling that this may happen alot with free school for people that otherwise would qualify excpet for race. Kind of like affirmative action in a college.

I'm going to be starting college in a week. When I first heard of EOP (Educational Opportunity Program), I thought "Wow, what a good idea!" Because I thought to be in it, you had to have a certain grade point average. As it turns out, to qualify, all you have to be is black and poor. Your average could've been just above failing, and you still get a free ride to any college of your choice.

Now for me, my mom is a single parent. Her income shows that she could easily pay for my college. But, she's a single parent. I got a little bit of aid, but not nearly enough.

One of my teachers from high school and I had a long conversation about the costs of college. Him and I both agree that for kids who have at least an 85 average (or show the abition to want to continue their studies... This would be shown by having teachers write letters of recomendation), school would be free, or nearly free. Maybe you'd only have to pay for room and board. But for those kids who's averages weren't that great, or who don't show the amibition to learn, college would still be at a discount, but it'd be costly.

Now don't go and say that's discriminating against the stupid kids. It's not. If they're not able to pull at 75 overall, yet show the amibition to want to learn, then they'll get in for free or low cost.

Blah, it's such b.s.

That's not fair. I don't think its right for everyone else to mandentorily pay for peoply that they don't even know. That's really stupid.
