I'm getting over a severe cold and am in the coughing-all-day-and-night stage. What's the best cough suppressant you recommend, mainly for overnight use so that I can sleep peacefully without needing to be woken up every few minutes from coughing?

Actually, coughing is your body's way of getting something out that needs to come out.

Since it's an all night and day thing you might wanna use Nyquil/Dayquil liquicaps. Thay usually do the job for me.

If it's a dry unproductive cough, try Robitussin DM and cough drops.

If you feel congested in your chest like your clogged up with phlegm try Mucinex.

Either way, lots of fluids and boost your vitamin C intake!

Hope you feel better! : )

I just learned this in pharmacology class. Anything with "codeine" in it, but this is only available through a prescription. All the other cough medicines that are over the counter...only surpress the cough, temporary relief. Codeine stop the cough....good luck

Keep a large supply of cough drops by your bed. No cough medicine works for me, so I just put one in my cheek and fall asleep again. Possible a choking hazard, but it works.

Lemon drops...they taste good, they work, and they are cheap.
I used to give them to patients all the time when I was a nurse on a med/surg floor
