Why would you not support gay marriage- how does it affect YOUR life? I don't get it.

Most Democrats believe in equal rights for all individuals and resist the temptation to meddle in others private business. Any two people who form a permanent relationship ought to enjoy the same rights and advantages as a married couple including tax advantages and the right to participate in health care decisions.

Many Republicans see same sex marriage as a threat to traditional marriage. The biggest threat to marriage happens to be divorce. Maybe they should work on overturning divorce laws.

Well, first it's not gay marriage. It's same-sex marriage.

Two gays can get married, as long as they are of the opposite gender. So, the issue has nothing to do with sexual orientation.

But to answer your question, a lot of people tend to think that the government should not be using gender-based discrimination in determining which monogamous couples get legal benefits and which do not.

IT is not about supporting gay people it is about equal rights for all people with no special treatment granted any group .
ITS like this .UNTIL i was sitting in a bar with a bunch of friends i worked with celibrating a buddys birthday i was under the illusion that when he mentioned us going to a toppless bar i could go along to .
IT was then i found out that i did not have this right .and it changed everything .I realized that some people believe they have the right to make rules that apply to certian people and not others .
MY wife did not care that all the rest of the guys were going just not me in her mind .
Well see , this is what freedom is all about and being who and what i am i went .THIS was the beggining i think of the shortest fight on record . ME looking at her and remembering those words "i do not think so" coming out of her mouth .AS i left i kept saying i do not think so over and over shaking my head .LAAATER when i got home i walked in and sat on the couch .After a few minutes she came out of the bedroom and said are you coming to bed and i said "I do not think so "and this was the end of the argument .IS it fair for some people to expect special treatment or rights others enjoy automaticaly by virtue of a few words and a registration fee that precludes certain people from participation .I do not think so .
IF some one in a church agrees to marry people then it should be recognized the same as any other church that marries people .NO differance at all and any rights given to one couple in marriage should automaticaly be given to all people .
I have suggested the ending of special entitlements marriage gives people without the benefit of having to pay a lawyer to arrange specific rights and benefits automaticaly granted by the government .I also belief that no special tax deductions should be allowed for having children and infact should pay more as people with kids will want someone to educate them .THIS is a collosal waste of money as far as i am concerned and should be ended .

It is wreckless to support gay marriage.
I read an answer above that said "it doesn't affect my life"
It does affect you, and everyone.
The foundation of any free country are families. A family is a man and a woman with children. Not any other confusion or manipulation/agenda.
You cannot compromise and confuse something as fiundational as marriage without expecting tragic and harmful consequences.
How can a child sort out this confusion?
It is against God's design, and we are brazen in accepting it under the "banner of tolerance" God knows what is best for us and we defy it.
There is right and wrong - and we cannot define it by argument and compromise.

Here's what they have to say about this:

"I misstated the Democratic Party's platform, which does not say that marriage should be limited to a man and a woman, but says the party is committed to full inclusion of gay and lesbian families in the life of our nation and leaves the issue to the states to decide," Dean is quoted as saying in the statement.

"The Democratic Party remains committed to equal protection under the law for all Americans. How we achieve that goal continues to be the subject of a contentious debate, but our party continues to oppose constitutional amendments that seek to short circuit the debate on how to achieve equality for all Americans."

Hope that answers your question :)
