One main purpose of the United Nations is to provide international support in order to settle global conflicts.

So the UN steps in and tells Israel they will provide a group of international peace keeping troops to monitor a 'buffer zone' helping protect the border; thereby, trying to keep peace in that area.

Now a new problem that no one expected has come up... nobody wants to get involved (they don't want to send troops) stating that would get them in the middle of what they see as a mess in the Middle East created by Bush.

Example, France is going to send some international troops but stated only a minimal amount and said publicly it is very concerned about being drug into Bush's mess in the middle east.

Other countries have flat-out refused to send any troops for the same reason.

Bush stated he does not want to send troops because that will pull too many Islamic Fascist (his words) into that region.

Seems to me we have a dilemma. If the UN can't back up promises then what??

The refusal is because Bush and Israel have acted arrogantly and pushed their aggression too far. The world community has has a lowered opinion of Bush from the day he lied to America to invade another country, killed thousands of innocents, bombed a country to rubble while favored companies made billions in war profits.
If the UN doesn't back Bush up it's because every civilized country in the world have had enough. Get our butts out of the Mid-East, make Israel negotiate with Lebanon or go to hell! Then try to rebuild the honorable Nation we had before Bush!

Nobody is a member of the UN by election; they are ALL political appointees (cronies). None of them is accountable for their votes; they do as they are told by their leaders. This should be a minumum wage job, go and give long-winded speeches, but never listen or do anything. Except count your money from the "Oil-for-Food" program.

As far as the lack of troops, that is partly America's fault; after WWII we took over the task of patrolling the world, stationing troops in Germany, Japan, Guam, S Korea, etc. Now these countries are so used to getting military protection for FREE that they don't know how. They have achieved "Learned Helplessness". So it's no surprise America is the only source of good troops willing to help solve a crisis involving violence.

The UN was ruined long before President Bush was around. I actually like his defiance of the organization and consider it one of his plusses. If the UN can't back up it's proclaimations, end it. No need to waste the money on it if it's just an America-Haters club.

Too bad; the world could use an organization that could help countries get along better.

Bush did not cause the crisis in the middle east. It has been there for centuries mam. Also, the UN was only good for humanitarian needs. Never military. Saddam killed the UN weapons inspectors out of his country in the 90s, and the UN did/could do nothing to stop it. Its been screwed up for a while militarily wise.

Bureaucracy is destroying the U.N.

Many countries don't send troops because there is no money to be made by sending them.

The U.N.'s usefulness dwindles every passing year as it sits back and does nothing for countries that need the most help, and helps the countries that it's members have business dealings with.

France is supposed to be in charge and they are sending what. 10 people? 10 f-ing people?? That's the French for you.

Why doesn't the UN cry for a cease fire in Iraq?

And I agree with you...Bush is responsible for the Middle East. I mean over thousands of years of fighting is because of that 60 year old President of ours......History books...Please look into one pick it up, open it, and expand your mind

The U.N. need strong hands to lean on. Dont expect everybody to agree with Isreal ,they must survive though it might be wrong sometimes but they must survive

Has Bush destroyed the UN?? God, how I hope so!! That has been the biggest drain on the US economy besides all the welfare, domestic and international, that this world has ever seen. Israel's doing what shoulda been done decades ago, and if it had been allowed to do so, we woulda never had a 9/11 to mourn. Dump the UN!! Yeaaaa George W. Bush!!!

Bush's actions have caused a huge dent in our relations with all of the other countries. Not just the U.S. Just think how many families he has messed up with this war, parents going off for a year or more, some not coming home, others coming home injured. And all of the families left here trying to keep things going for the families that have had to go to war. Yes, I also wish I would of voted different. We can't keep trying to police the whole world.

U.N. pass useless resolutions all the time....

Like Geneva convention about torture, the country Geneva is, Switzerland, don't even signed the damn convention, so what the use....

Israel didn't signed it so no need to respect any conventions..

And , BeachBum, you perfectly know U.N. is controled, by Illuminati, and will soon be the New World Order.

Thanks for trying to wake up people !

The UN is a joke, and Kofi Annan and most of Europe are criminals for exploiting the poorest of poor nations.
