I'm sorry that you have to give away your rabbit. You seem like you do really care about your rabbit and how it ends up so I respect that. I think that you would feel most comfortable giving it to a place where it could find a good home and live well for the rest of its life.
My first thought when you mentioned that you live in California was the Bunny Bunch S.P.C.R. ( www.bunnybunch.org ). It's a very reputable no-kill shelter. But when I went on mapquest to see where it is in relation to where you are, it's a bigger distance than I was hoping. They say they have a reach-out program with volunteers in different states too, so you might be able to work something out with them if you are too far away.
Pets Unlimited is a shelter located in San Francisco that might be willing to assist you as well. It's closer than the bunny bunch at least, although I haven't heard as much about it.
I searched for shelters in Turlock but the one that I found says nothing of surrendering rabbits, so I'm not sure. (http://www.turlock.ca.us/citydepartments/animalcontrol/)
And this lists some shelters in the northern California area.
If after all that, you still can't get anyone to care for it. I suggest you put something in your local paper, or on an online site (someone mentioned craigslist already I think).
I hope that helps, good luck.

The House Rabbit Society. I'm not sure exactly where Turlock is, but here are links to the websites of all their CA chapters:
They are in this order:
Sacramento
San Diego
East Bay Area (Headquarters)
San Francisco/Marin
They won't take your rabbit, but they can help you find an owner/shelter that will.

Have you tried your local SPCA or other animal shelters? You might also try google-ing rabbit farms and such for your area and seeing if they take rabbits too. Hope this helps you some.

Try craigslist. This is a good website to find homes for your pets. If that doesn't work, try to find a rescue organization for rabbits.

See if your local Animal Control shelter will take it in. You can also post it to website listings such as freecycle.org and craigslist.com.
If time is not pressing, you can also post the rabbit on such sites as petfinder.com, pets911.com or 1-800-save-a-pet.com

Ths is Yahoo U.K. you're posting on, if you lived in the u.k. I'd suggest you search on the internet for your nearest small animal rescue, rabbit rescue and SPCA.
You type in "animal rescue + rabbit + Turlock CA".

You could sell it to a pet shop, a friend, or put an ad in the paper
