I took my 11 yr old sick dog to the pet emergency room at about 11pm one night. She had been in labor for 2 days without delivering any puppies. To make a long story short-- the vet there told me it would be $1600 to treat her. All I had brought w/me was about $60. A kind man who came in after me was sitting in the waiting room when me and my 8 yr old son came out from the back crying, because I couldn't afford to pay that much money, and I had been told that my dog was going to die if she didn't have this procedure done. This gentleman offered to pay the difference! He asked what was wrong and said that he loved animals too and he was touched that we cared so much about our old Nottie (that's my dogs name, she is 13 now). And to top it off, he wouldn't hear of being reimbursed. The only thing that he asked was that we allow him to also pay to have her "fixed" so this wouldn't happen again. That man is an angel. I love telling this story, its true and it this gentleman set a great example of human kindness to me and my son that night.

Coming off the freeway one Summer (about 110F) in Phoenix. Traffic lights were out & a homeless guy was (effectively) directing a total of 12 lanes of traffic. I was driving a 25-foot RV for the first time, so it was a godsend.

Now that panhandling has been made illegal at the offramps, this isn't likely to happen again, soon.
