We are third year computer science under graduates...we must do akin project this semester....we have a good lan in our campus with a seperate server for each hostel......we thought of STORAGE VIRTUALISATION of our computers.....i.e making the hard disks of the computers accessible to others ihn the grooup.....is this feasible........

you can set up a sub, setting the permissions so people can access the other hard drives.

Every computer is therefore a standalone server.

Absolutely. Just set up a sub-LAN, and set the permissions so that only the people in your LAN can access each other's hard drives. Each can be a stand-alone server, as well as the server/client for the LAN.

I suppose that you going to use C - lang in Unix (sockets), You can do the project if you are familiar with the language and networking concepts, or else it will be hard to complete in 3 months.
If you are going to use Java , it should be easier.
