local vauxall garage

Are you sure you havn't got the air blower on air-recycle!
When you do that the level of moisture inside the car rises and the blower & demister-heater strips in the glass are much less effective at removing condensation from the glass.
If the blower is not recycling, then maybe you have a bad electrical contact on the demister terminals on the glass.
If the demister isn't working at all, check the fuse if you havn't already.

I also have an Astra 1.6. The way to get the front screen to demist, believe it or not, is to to set the heater controls to fresh air/ windscreen/ maximum fan and then TURN YOUR AIR CONDITIONING ON, if it is fitted. The screen will demist in front of your eyes, literally in seconds. If you don't have air conditioning, you have a problem. The demister is rubbish.

Yes fetch it to me and I'll take it to my local vauxall dealer.

They'll fix it and charge you. I'll charge you £115 per hour I spend on the case and charge 10% on the vauxall bill for acting as an agent.

OR you can look at it yourself or take it to a local garage or you nearest vauxall dealer.

What do you reckon?

Make sure your heater settings are correct (not recyling etc) and also make sure your windscreen is reasonable clean. Sometimes dirt/grease build up as part of normal use can affect the efficiency of the demister

1) Check that the controls are set correctly for maximum demist (Please do not be offended by this suggestion - I never cease to be astonished by the nummber of cars driving around either steamed or frosted, which suggests that the drivers have no idea how to set up the controls)
2) Check that the controls are NOT set for recirculation
3) Check that the plenum chamber (the box-like structure under the bonnet immediately in front of the windscreen) is not full of dead leaves etc
4) Set the booster fan to maximum speed until the screen is cleared

If you are referring to the REAR heated screen, there are appropriate answers already provided for you.

Best of luck!!

clean all the connections, an u know the lines r they metal strips or is it within the glass? if its strips check there's no gaps, if its within the glass, u may have a lower fuse. if its your blowers ur talking about, park car on kirb, 2 wheels that is, undo bottom of radiator and open water inlet an flush it through with a hose, you may just have leaves blocking it xxxxx
