Why do people say that the remake was better, if they haven't seen the original?

To me, the original is a classic and should never have been remade. There are some things that you just can't improve on.

I have only seen the American remake, so I can't really say which one was best. I can say the remake pretty damn cool though. Are you on some kind of Michael Caine kick by the way?

I watched the "remake" a few weeks ago. Aside from the fact that Marky Mark's character had the name Charlie Croker and there were minis and gold bullion involved there wasn't much in the way of similarity (thank god) - I was dreading a very poor attempt at the greatest line in movie history - "You're only supposed to blow the bloody doors off..." Sorry, I did enjoy the remake, but nowhere near as good as the original.

original is by far the best and is one of the best british movies ever. The "remake", which also has michael caine (on tv screen) appeals to a new generation.

The one with Michael Caine. The remake is a pale imitation.
Women don't get that type of film. Not mushy enough !

God - you are on a roll tonight.

Obviously, the Michael Caine one - for Noel Coward if nothing else.

And the ending is as perfect an ending as is possible to imagine.

Having said all that, I haven't seen the new one - so I should probably shut up until I have.

The remake was rubbish.

When there is a classic cult film there is no way that anyone should remake them, no matter who they are or what celeb they get in them.
