more like a "tetralogy"-i forgot about the 2005 version..

Night of the Living Dead constitutes the first film in a tetralogy directed by George Romero. Following the 1968 film, Romero released Dawn of the Dead (1978), Day of the Dead (1985), and Land of the Dead (2005). Each film traces the evolution of the zombie epidemic in the United States and humanity's desperate attempts to cope with it. As in Night of the Living Dead, Romero peppered the other films in the series with critiques specific to the periods they were released.

in night of the living dead, because of some radioactivity from a fallen satellite (or something like that) the dead begin rising from their graves to find humans on which to prey on, in dawn of the dead the zombies have become more widespread and a couple of survivors battle it out in a mall, in day of the dead, zombies have completely taken over and a few survivors underground must figure out what to do

I don't think it was meant to be in a series but with all the other "Living dead" movies that came out at the same time(or remade) it was lumped together.
