As there are so many millions of movies, it might just be easier to think about about the best sub genres in the genre of scary movies. I think the scariest movies have to be the ones that have a foundation in reality. I mean films that deal with issues that we are facing today. I found Scream really disturbing because we are surrounded with news stories every day of people who do lose their minds and go out and murder people with little or no motive. The scariest films are the films that make you think about how safe you actually are as you are watching them. Yes, the frights in The Grudge and The Ring and the like are great at the time, but the sensation of fear doesn't stay with you afterwards because it could never happen. If I knew of someone who had actually seen a girl crawl out the TV, then I would change my mind. Likewise, I find ghost based films similarly scary because I believe in them and there is more and more scientific evidence that points to the existance of ghosts. Films like House of Wax are entertaining because of the gross factor, but not scary because they are too fantastical.

That's real easy! The Blob was the film I found so horribly scary when I was younger. The worst film was Forrest Gump. Now as to why? Concerning the Blob I have no earthly idea but Forrest Gump or Mermaid were extremely poor made movies!

WORST: Howling 3 and The Killer Clowns. Why they made either one of these into a series is beyond me and a waste of brain matter.
SCARIEST: Exorcist - it stayed with you long after you left the theatre
