OK. To clarify, Poland became a member of the EU and Poles floodded into Britain. Bulgaria and Rumania will become part of the EU in Jan 07. The UK govt has said it may not allow free immigration from these two countries like it did for Poland. Is this racist?

No they are not racist. They are simply looking at the reality of the situation. They got it wrong last time and have to address any potential problem with a further influx. The wider Europe is in everyones' interest but it's got to be done without creating mass movements between countries which could have a drastic effect on both the home nation and the host nation.

Poland is part of the Eu so the UK has no choice but to allow free entry, whereas, Rumania and Bulgaria do not come into the EU until January 2007

There is free movement within EU perhaps out Government should see how other EU countries cope with the influx of workers. The UK seems the favourite destination Why?
We were told there would be approximately 5000 Polish coming to the UK when they entered the EU but we have ten fold of that amount coming here.
Its not racist but we should have a quota because our infrastructure cannot deal with the sheer numbers

The government cannot exclude them from coming here once they are EU citizens. They want to prevent them from *working* here, because Bulgaria is a hotbed of criminality which is not ready for EU membership. None of the present member states had the nerve to block their accession when they had the chance. The government seriously underestimated the number of people from the 10 new EU countries to come since 2004. Allowing the Bulgarians free movement throughout the EU is going to bring a lot of trouble.

It's not racist, it's defending the country's best interests.

Poland is a part of EU, but NOT Bulgar or Roumania.
The UK government is not fascistic as the most of the Bulgarians are Germans but are speaking a slavic language.

no not racist, i belive the government have finally realised that thier immigration policy is fraught with loopholes allowing every tom, dick and harry into this country. To be honest and this is not a racist comment, the government need to stop all immigration for at least a year to discover who the hell is in this country, then re start with a balanced quota based system that does not flood our dwindling resourses, ie NHS, welfare system

No it is not racist but has no real structure to bring Bulgarian and Romanians (in the numbers they allege are going to come) into Britain. I think they are scared of the knock on effect to the jobfront and the economy.

If you can tel the difference between Polish, Bulgarian Romanians
then you need a job at the immigration dept. Frankly I thought they were the same race.

no. Its important for a country to be able to have control over their borders and who is allowed to cross them. Bulgaria and Romania are not full EU members yet.
