Yes, I have seen crickets flying.

Roaches also have wings, but almost always they crawl. That's because, for their size, they are the fastest insect. So they can move faster when crawling. Another problem with flying is that you become an easy target for birds and bats.

So roaches and crickets can fly, but they prefer to keep it low on the ground and hide from any threat.

Some crickets (Mole crickets, for example) can fly though as a whole they're usually content to crawl around looking for food.

YES but they do have trouble clearing security.

Fly as in ability to remain aloft on their own power- no.

Different varieties but some can increase their distance jumping MOST have vestigial wings though.

Technically speaking is a wing a wind or percussion instrument?

No, they don't fly. But males use their wings to "chirp" to attract a female. Anyone who says they fly needs to quote their source. Their wings are not made for flying.

They can, at least for short distances, but they don't do it very often.

Also, if you're wondering which insects have wings, all of them do at some stage in their lives except for worker and soldier ants and termites (the queens and drones do have wings, though) as well as silverfish and firebrats.
