can someone recommend a warming up exercise for the vocal chords before singing?

thanks for the quick responses. i m not a professional singer (but want to be) and neither do i have a coach, so i m learning singing by myself. i have yet to learn what octaves are :)

i take voice lessons. we do a lot of scale work and going up and down the octave. if you are a soprano try to work on the low notes but also the high ones, and vise versa for an alto. also try to different vowel sounds such as 'a, ah, oh, ee' and others because singing and talking are obviosuly alike but are also very different. when you sing, you have to change the sound of some vowels so they dont sound weird.

My making a music became more advantageous very much. once you workout you how you could launch your breath through your throat with out any straining. Your throat is obstacle, trust it or not. Well, I always start up high and work my way down, it sounds really funny making stupid noises but it always works! you can pretend you are a rollercoaster if you know what i mean, just different things like that, you can do scales, i do one where you start on middle c and go every key singing bum-ble-bee-e-bum-ble-bee-e-bum-ble-bum-ble-beeee then work your way down saying the same thing, hope this works for you!!
