POTS is telephone service; you can hook up a modem but it's slow and drops the signal.
Token ring is an obsolete networking scheme.
Ethernet is the only game in town, with two types: wireless and cabled.
For your home or small business, ethernet is your friend. Wireless does not require cables, is quite insecure and somewhat costly. Cable ethernet has cables, is more secure if the cables are inaccessible to persons outside the premises, and is extremely economical (if you are ok with exposed wires areound the house, and is fault-tolerant (if one unit fails, the rest of the system still works).
