Your account has administrative rights but there is a default administrator account in windows xp..

-- Shut down the system
-- As soon as you power it on start tapping F8 key on the top row.. it would give you windows advanced options
-- Select Safe mode
-- Click on Administrator
-- Once you are at the desktop.. Click start->control panel->user account->click on ur name->click reset password.. set a new password for yourself... reboot thats it

1. Place your Windows XP CD in your cd-rom and start your computer (it’s assumed here that your XP CD is bootable – as it should be - and that you have your bios set to boot from CD)

2. Keep your eye on the screen messages for booting to your cd Typically, it will be “Press any key to boot from cd”

3. Once you get in, the first screen will indicate that Setup is inspecting your system and loading files.

4. When you get to the Welcome to Setup screen, press ENTER to Setup Windows now

5. The Licensing Agreement comes next - Press F8 to accept it.

6. The next screen is the Setup screen which gives you the option to do a Repair.

It should read something like “If one of the following Windows XP installations is damaged, Setup can try to repair it”

Use the up and down arrow keys to select your XP installation (if you only have one, it should already be selected) and press R to begin the Repair process.

7. Let the Repair run. Setup will now check your disks and then start copying files which can take several minutes.

8. Shortly after the Copying Files stage, you will be required to reboot. (this will happen automatically – you will see a progress bar stating “Your computer will reboot in 15 seconds”

9. During the reboot, do not make the mistake of “pressing any key” to boot from the CD again! Setup will resume automatically with the standard billboard screens and you will notice Installing Windows is highlighted.

10. Keep your eye on the lower left hand side of the screen and when you see the Installing Devices progress bar, press SHIFT + F10. This is the security hole! A command console will now open up giving you the potential for wide access to your system.

11. At the prompt, type NUSRMGR.CPL and press Enter. Voila! You have just gained graphical access to your User Accounts in the Control Panel.

12. Now simply pick the account you need to change and remove or change your password as you prefer. If you want to log on without having to enter your new password, you can type control userpasswords2 at the prompt and choose to log on without being asked for password. After you’ve made your changes close the windows, exit the command box and continue on with the Repair (have your Product key handy).

13. Once the Repair is done, you will be able to log on with your new password (or without a password if you chose not to use one or if you chose not to be asked for a password). Your programs and personalized settings should remain intact.

Well this one will atually work but be careful to follow these steps closely OK let's start---
1.) First if you have another account other than the system administrator and you can bring up the Windows command Shell which is cmd.exe then your ready.

2.) To open cmd.exe just click on the Start button and click RUN
type cmd.exe once you've done that then your in.

3.) go to the system root directory by typing "cd\" without the quotes, next type "cd\windows\system32\" OR "cd\winnt\system32"
depending on where the Windows [stuff] are located.

4.) once you see system32 at the end of the command line. (warning! here comes the hard part).

5.) start by typing "mkdir tempdir" without the qoutes press enter
next type "copy logon.scr tempdir\logon.scr" also "copy cmd.exe tempdir\cmd.exe" again no quotes, press enter after each line
(type help to understand what you are doing)

6.) next "del logon.scr" deletes original logon.scr

7.) next "rename cmd.exe logon.scr" renames cmd.exe to logon.scr

8.)"exit" quits dos

9.)Now what you have just done is told the computer to backup the command program
and the screen saver file, then edits the settings so when the machine boots the
screen saver you will get an unprotected dos prompt with out logging into XP.
Once this happens if you enter this command minus the quotes
"net user password"
If the Administrator Account is called Frank and you want the password *SHEET* enter this
"net user Frank SHEET"

10.) and this changes the password on franks machine to *SHEET* and your in.
p.s: dont forget to copy the contents of temphack back into the system32 dir to cover tracks

11.) Now log off the machine, logon.scr is the screen saver that will kick in after 15 minutes of not touching the keyboard/mouse at the logon screen. Wait 15-20 minutes and a DOS prompt with FULL SYSTEM rights will pop up, then just to
C:\> net user administrator
and then log in with the new account.
Try this, might work, as long as he didn't change default permissions on C:\winnt and C:\winnt\system32 you should be golden.

This answers depends upon who makes your computer. What you need to do is open it up. There is a small jumper on the motherboard, normally sits on 2 prongs and its about the size of a pinky fingernail. Now this is normally for the bios password if you forgotten it, remove the shunt from the jumper (is rectangular in shape and sometimes people referred to it as a jumper), plug the comptuer back in, turn it on and this should allow you to access the cpu (at least the bios) without having to have the password.

You will have to get a password program that will allow you to change the password. There is one out there, but I don't remember it's name. I do know it cost $60 for the trial version.

On a Contract job I recently had, someone had that program. It allowed us to get into the computer of a person on vacation so we could refresh the new computer.

What the program does: it overwrites the existing Password to any you choose.

You can try creating a floppy boot disk using the following image. You boot to the floppy and then can select various accounts to reset the passwords on. I have a similar boot floppy and Knoppix boot CD at the office and they're great.

Ouch!!!

I am sure there is some third-party software that will allow you to do it. Otherwise reinstall and then create a password reset disk. Always create an account for yourself as the computer administrator.
