Definately 'metacrawler' because unlike the others, even 'dogpile', it searches all the the search engines, including... yahoo, dogpile, google, ask jeeves etc

Google, definitely. It's the fastest search engine on the internet, except for Baidu (but that's Chinese), and has the most sites. When people want to submit their sites, they tend to go to Google first. It's a good choice to make, especially since 40% of internet searches are done using Google.

It all depends on what you're looking for.

Google is the best all-around search engine, but if that doesn't yield what you're looking for, search engines such as dogpile.com and metacrawler.com search across multiple search engines such as Google, MSN and Yahoo!

Google Scholar (scholar.google.com) is useful for looking up academic papers and the like whilst ask.com is useful when you are asking specific questions.

Dogpile.com because it combines the results of three search engines....google, yahoo and msn.

Google. I know everyone who answers this is goiong to say Google but I have a reason why.

On Google you can search for praticular sites and they will come up. For example, let's say I want to get to http://www.lyricsondemand.com but I don't know how to spell it. I'll just type it in and there it is ( http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=lyrics+on+demand ). You can't do that with Yahoo!. If I search for "lyrics on demand" on Yahoo! only references to the site come up (http://search.yahoo.com/search?search=lyrics+on+demand&ei=UTF-8&fr=ks-ans&search_type=http%3A%2F%2Frds.yahoo.com%2F_ylt%3DAihlhwSypOwEYMbfzfR1CNEazKIX%2FSIG%3D111gjvvgj%2F*-http%3A%2F%2Fsearch.yahoo.com%2Fsearch&p=lyrics+on+demand ).
