I too have very very dry skin and scalp, especially in the winter. I keep my skin and scalp moisturized by doing a few things. Dove shampoo and conditioner help a LOT when it comes to my hair and scalp, way better than any dry skin or dandruff shampoo. I also do a V05 hot oil treatment once a month.
As far as home remedies and vitamins, some that have worked well for me were:
1. Vitimin E- you can take the gel tablets internally, or break them open and apply it directly to your skin in dry areas like elbows knees and nose, or on your scalp
2. Olive oil. My hairdresser puts this in my hair/scalp when she does it and WOW it really makes the difference. It makes your scalp moist without making it greasy, which is really hard to acheive with store bought products.
3. Lavender oil. This was prescribed to me when I was a baby and I had cradle cap (seriously bad dry skin over the whole scalp) it completely made it go away when all else failed.
These three items are very cheap and can be purchased at any GNC or Walmart

Oh my grandma used this a lot! You get a mixing bowl, add mayonaise, egg whites (not the yellow part) and lemon juice, and mix it together. Use this to wash your hair. Leave it on for about 10 minutes, and afterwards your scalp should be much softer.
You can also use this mixture on your skin, but it mightdry in 10 minutes and flake off, (that means you need more mayonaise) but if you don't want to put it on your skin (arms and legs) then you can use olive oil. Justrub it into your skin in the morning and at night, it will moisturize your skin.
Good luck!

dandruff is not a fungus, it is dry skin flaking off your head. If it is from a build up of oil then the flakes (or clumps... yuck) would be yellow. Lower the temp of your shower Use a good conditioner and shampoo Do not overwash your hair

I heard oatmeal is a mostier retainer and often used in soap, I don't know how well it would work out for your hair though.

Vitamin E works really well and I heard that having oatmeal in your heal for a bit helps. I'm not sure, though.
