I like to know because it's usually an interesting story. Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds for example.

I would rather know what the artist is singing about, because I like songs I can relate to. Knowing songs that express my friends feelings as well as my own has helped us say things we couldn't verbalize. If I make up my own interpretation, I could be thinking of something totally different from what the song is really supposed to mean.

I listen to music, not songs. Guitar and some more guitar. No lyrics to mess up the mood of the sound. Pure tonal bliss. Everything from Segovia to Vai. Ltrics are just for people who can't play, or people without the ability to feel the emotion of the music, and purely the music.

So, rather not hear them sing at all.

I always prefer to guess and then find out and then listen again.

Like the song Australia by the Manic Street Preachers is actually about hating long haul flights but the first time I heard it I thought it was just about Australia the country.

I find that 3 in 10 of the musicians and bands i listen to are dead so i think like that.
Usally music means something to me because of what it reminds me of, for example what has happend in my life.I hate to think that a song i think is a really good happy song when really lyrically its a sad song.
and vice versa

music for me gets to my sense's and plays with my feelings. There are some songs with know lyrics and i think would what would the lyrics be to this song.

Interesting question thanks!

Own interpretation. On the other hand, it can be embarrassing when you get the words wrong!!

i feel a bit disappointed if there aren't lyrics with the cd... but then my favourite 80s band didn't even have lyrics and I loved their tunes! (That'll be the Cocteau Twins, youngsters, Elizabeth Frazer - yup, of Teardrop fame - was the godmother of trip hop and ambient). So I guess it doesn't really matter...
