I live in rural Suffolk (uk). We just bought our house. It is a 2 year old 4 bed house. It cost us £165k.
I think northen england have cheaper home as the closer to london you are the more the house will cost.

When you get out of "collage" you might want to consider trying to get into college. You cannot simply move to England because you want to. You would need at least a Masters degree in a needed skill. Work permits are extremely difficult to get and an undergraduate degree would not put you anywhere near qualifying for one. Do you mean 400,000 dollars or 400,000 pounds sterling? If you mean dollars, then 400,000 wouldn't buy you much, especially a property with acreage for horses.

In Yorkshire you can buy a terraced house for about £30 grand. But good luck trying to find a job up there! (or even anything to do!)

Where, in the title and text of your question, not were. In answering the question, probably in places like Salford, a suberb of Manachester, at a guess.
As to my own area, not much less than £480,000.
